Job Description

  The Assistant Director is a part of the team that is responsible for operational oversight to the organization, including the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy’s (NBCOT) external communications and regulatory affairs.

Essential Functions:
  • Represents NBCOT at national and state meetings to disseminate information about NBCOT certification programs and services (e.g., state occupational therapy (OT) association conferences, state OT regulatory boards, the American Occupational Therapy Association Annual Conference).
  • Develops and sustains organizational relationships to promote stakeholder relationships.
  • Assists with management of the NBCOT ambassador program to support a national initiative.
  • Plans and facilitates meetings to optimize relevant content and inform constituencies about current patterns and trends in regulation, certification, and occupational licensing.
  • Communicates with staff, information technology teams, and external vendors as required.
  • Provides consultation to OT certificants, certification candidates, and others about NBCOT resources, products, services, and occupational therapy certification requirements.
  • Collaborates with marketing and customer service teams to enhance messaging and promote NBCOT certification programs and services.
  • Develops content for organizational communications including newsletters, program brochures, handbooks, and presentations.
  • Contributes to other program area activities, including planning, implementing, and disseminating organizational research as needed. 
  • And other job-related responsibilities as needed to support NBCOT’s mission, vision, and values.
Qualification and Requirements (knowledge, skills, and experience):
  • Must be currently certified and licensed OT in home state.
  • Required Degree Level:  Entry-level master’s degree or doctoral degree in occupational therapy.
  • Required Experience: 1 to 2 years: 
    • Thorough understanding of the concept of public protection and regulation.
    • Experience working with regulatory entities.
    • Keen awareness of certification, accreditation, and regulation.
    • Excellent public speaking skills with a history of professional presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to develop, manage, and organize systems and processes.
  • Ability to implement methodical and consistent decision-making approaches on policies and procedures. 
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities and skills.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a team setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work location : remote (based in the US) or hybrid (headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland).
  • Work schedule : 35 hours per week.
  • Travel (domestic) : approximately 15% of the year and may vary slightly depending upon need.
Salary range: $85,000 - $100,000/year
