The  Senior Legal Typist ( SLT) provides clerical support for Workers' Compensation Judges including the preparation and service of orders, correspondence, reports, decisions and awards. This includes reserving and completing tasks within the Electronic Adjudication Management System (EAMS) involving the processing of both incoming and outgoing documents. The SLT also assists the WCJ in maintaining EAMS records and assisting parties and the public with inquiries.

Working Conditions

This position is located at:
732 Corporate Center Drive
Pomona, CA 91768-2653

The employee works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Daily access to and use of a personal computer, keyboard, telephone, fax and other office equipment are essential. Employee is required to attend meetings in designated conference rooms and be willing to travel for off-site trainings, work in a team environment and independently.

Telework available two (2) days per week.

Special Requirements

Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Typing Certificate of 45 words per minute, ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, follow directions, analyze situations and take effective action using good judgment in decision making, manage time and resources effectively and be responsive to management needs.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation, business English usage and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of technical legal terms and various legal forms and documents and their processing.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Excellent interpreting skills to accurately interpret written material and numerical data.
  • Excellent writing skills to edit written material.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, to ensure quality customer service and to communicate with other staff and those contacted in the work place.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize work assignments or projects.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to type at a speed of 45 words per minute.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence independently.
  • Ability to perform difficult legal clerical work including the ability to process a large variety of legal documents, spell correctly, use good English, and make arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to transcribe accurately difficult dictation involving a variety of legal terms from a dictating machine. Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
